Curiosity kills the cat.

The wait kills me.

“Northeast is the crown jewel of India”

“Northeast is just beautiful.”

“Northeast is a paradise on Earth.”

The states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura in northeastern India together comprise the SEVEN SISTERS.

Oblivious to the fact that I haven’t been to the one of the most unexplored parts of the country, I have been hearing comments like those at regular intervals of time from people who have visited the Seven Sisters or (strangely enough) people who have seen the serene pictures and the raw beauty that nature has to offer.

I was discussing with my father on a possible trip to the Northeast during the onset of monsoon. He was apprehensive. A frown appeared on his usually bright face. The thought of the small roads, the news of landsildes, the forlorn comments about the rain lashing out in several parts of the Seven Sisters overshadowed the natural thought process of the man who is always filled with nothing but positivity. With several rounds of planning the trip in full flow, hours just flew by, yet the season looks unconvincing. I know for a fact that in any trip, safety comes first. So taking that in mind, the thought of an august gathering in the month of August was quashed.

So the flight ticket was duly checked for the month of October. However , the prospect of convincing my father to tag along with me to the northeast is the most daunting task of all. You know , he said “let’s go camping in south-east Asia”, like what! He wants to go backpacking in Cambodia and Vietnam. I can’t and wouldn’t go beyond his word. If he says backpacking, it is backpacking then. So I have to identify what the future holds. Road trip or backpacking. Chaos is beautiful, isn’t it?

I had that plan. The plan to go on a couple of week’s trip to paradise. A walk on the wettest place on the planet. Dancing to the tone of the natives of Arunachal Pradesh, relaxing on a hammock in Nagaland, praying at the Tripurasundari temple in Tripura or drinking Assamese tea in Assam ; all these would have to wait.

Clearly, we are not ready for the Seven Sisters, clearly our mind is set elsewhere. The northeast called, we missed the call. All we need is time and the right mindset for a callback and we are not going to get a negative reply. New cultures, new people, a whole new world awaits.
